Mmmmm Sunday Was Good
In which I reflect on three things from the day. To share with you, to building gratitude, and to distract me from the Sunday Scaries.
Mindful Movement
This morning I headed to 1000 Islands in Kaukauna. I highly recommend visiting, it’s a treasure.
Not today, but a foggy day
Today I was there for a bimonthly group called Grounded and Resilient: Moving Meditation in Nature. Awhile back I decided I needed to get out of the house more and stumbled on this class. I’m grateful I did.
It is 45 minutes of light movement in nature, or inside when it is cold. The type of movement varies. We’ve done Quigon and Tai Chi as well as other easy movements. As the title of the class implies it’s more mindful movements than exercise.
I’ve followed some YouTube videos with some of the forms of movement before. It was ok. It is much better to have a teacher, in person, to explain the why and give feedback.
This was my thrid time going. I have learned a lot. Some things I will do more of at home. It’s always a good time.
Mixology
I gave up alcohol two years ago on New Year’s Eve, strictly for health reasons. What I haven’t been able to shake is a good mixed drink.
Beyond feeling fancy about it, I mix drinks to cut down on caffeine in energy drinks. My latest concoction is two parts iced chai green tea, with one part diet cran apple juice. Low-to-no sugar is a must in my world. The tea has a nice flavor and a touch of caffeine, the juice is a little sweet and a little tart. Love it.
Making Moments Matter
This header is stretch but I’ll make it work. Hear me out.
I was thinking about resting today, but had to move a little. Sunday is for swimming, so I headed ot the Y. I swam about half as much as I usually do, slight rest. To compensate, I hit it hard. I swam as fast as I could for 50 meters, then did 50m of backstroke to catch my breath.
I’ve done the same with running as well. Sprinting short distances when I didn’t have time for a longer run. It’s always a solid move if you are short on time. Even when time isn’t an issue it’s a good addition to your routine to vary intensity a distance, or weight and repitiions. Shake it up, suprise your body. You’d be suprised what it is capable of.
I’ve heard 10 body weight squats are the equivalent of a 30 minute walk. Wild.
Until next time.
